Meet Dr. Mark T. Dean & Our Team


Dr. Dean graduated from Illinois College of Optometry in 1976 with both a Bachelors of Science in Vision Science and a Doctorate of Optometry degrees. Dr. Dean practiced with his father in Sparta Michigan, where he grew up, a small town north of Grand Rapids. He relocated to Myrtle Beach in 1981 where he currently owns and directs a specialty practice devoted to vision therapy and vision rehabilitation.
Dr. Dean is a member of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD), in 2010 he completed the COVD fellowship process. Members of COVD are optometrists who specialize in working with children and adults experiencing difficulties in the areas of binocular vision, focusing, eye teaming, strabismus and amblyopia and visual processing skill.
Dr. Dean coordinates with parents and educators in writing IEP programs and helping to write accommodations and 504 modifications. He also coordinates sensory integration programs with Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Behavior Medical Specialties.
Dr. Dean is a member of the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitative Association (NORA). Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation is an individualize treatment regimen for patients with visual deficits as a direct result of physical disabilities, traumatic brain injury and other neurological insults. He provides treatment for people with visual field loss, double vision, visual balance disorders, visual midline shift syndrome, post trauma vision syndrome, light sensitivity and reading disorders.
Dr. Dean is also a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA); South Carolina Optometric Physicians Association (SCOPA); and the Optometric Extension Program Foundation (OEPF).

Heather is the Vision Therapy Administrator and Senior Vision Therapist here at GSVS. Originally from Charlotte, NC, Heather relocated to Conway, SC with her family while pursuing her BA in Psychology at Limestone University and has lived in Horry County for the past 10 years. Heather's background is as a Behavioral Therapist in the years prior to accepting a position as a Vision Therapist at Grand Strand Vision Service in 2020. Heather is the mom of two sweet children and has been married to her husband since 2018. In her spare time, she enjoys reading a good book, taking a long walk on the beach and spending time with her family.

Elizabeth who goes by Libby, joined our team in June 2020. With over 30 years in professional office management positions and a strong background in high volume, high pressure environments; Libby manages administrative duties and patient relations for Grand Strand Vision Services. As the Patient Care Coordinator and Office Manager, Libby is the friendly voice greeting you when you call. She ensures the smooth operation of the front office with her robust knowledge of scheduling, medical records, insurance authorizations, patient inquiries and the need for timely access to the services being provided. She enjoys working with an organization that is making a difference in the lives of others and overjoyed about being on the staff at Grand Strand Vision Services to help further the mission. We are thankful to have Libby on our Team.

Teresa joined our Vision Therapy team in 2021 as our PCC Billing & Insurance Specialist. She graduated from Anderson Junior College in Anderson, SC in 1988 and has been working in the medical insurance and billing field for over 30 years. She handles insurance payments, billing, AR, authorizations, and appeals and applies her vast knowledge and experience to solve difficult problems with efficient solutions. Teresa lives in the Myrtle Beach area with her dog Lucy and enjoys spending time with her grandchildren. She works with Libby to assist with insurance providers.
Kim joined our Vision Therapy team in 2022. Kim is orginally from Monroe, NC and graduated from Wingate College with a BS in Human Services. Kim has lived in Horry County for the past 27 years. Kim works with our therapy staff to provide quality therapy services.
